Sustainability

Sustainable practices have a direct impact on our business operation. Our goal is to be profitable by focusing on continuous improvement and using our resources as efficiently as possible.

To do this we have invested in forward-thinking technology and developments which help reduce our overall running costs and, ultimately, leave more money in our growers’ pockets.

One example is our efforts to reduce electricity consumption. This is Trevelyan’s third biggest cost, so we have hired a specialist to monitor our procurement using fixed and spot price purchasing.

New energy-efficient lighting which switches on and off in response to movement was also installed in all of Trevelyan’s new and extended coolstores in 2014, significantly reducing our power consumption.

We have also taken steps to improve our refrigerant use and lower our carbon emissions. Our equipment now runs much more efficiently. We are using a refrigerant in our new coolstores which has a lower global warming potential (GWP) than other options currently available.

All of these steps help us to operate as a LEAN, profitable business supplying quality fruit to the world. Our industry-leading OGRs and low fruit loss statistics are a testament to our success and will ensure a long-term sustainable future for us all.
